In 1947 when Pakistan came into being, Muslims of minority areas moved to Karachi the biggest City of Pakistan after scarifying the love for their near and dear, left their home land, Imam Bargah, Masajid, Grave-yards of their parents/elders. They came here in a very distress manner with the just few necessary belongings among which Alam of Hazrat Abbas Alamdar was specifically included. They were provided Huts made of Bamboo and shelter / quarters of Tin Sheets. Although these immigrants were remembering their native land obviously yet since the month of Mohrarram-ul-Haram was nearer, all these people were worried about the Azadari-e-Syed-us-Shohda.
Among these people i.e. “Mahajreen” there were five persons viz M/s. Habib-ul-Hassan Zaidi, Syed Zafar Hussain Kazmi, Syed Ali Imam Bilgrami, Syed Shamim Hassan Zaidi and Syed Qurban Hussain Abidi. These people arranged a meeting at Quarter No.4/57 Jacob Lines, Karachi, belongs Mr. Habib-ul-Hassan Zaidi and set up a “Moharram Committee” . These five persons were the organizing / parent only Members of this Committee. With the approval of Government, Majalis of 1st Ashra-e-Mohramm was organized in Primary School, Jacob Lines, Karachi. Mohtaram Janab Tajul Ullama Moulana Mohammd Naqi Sahib Sahranpuri addressed the Majalis. On the day of Aashoora, Aamal-e-Aashoora were completed and thereafter a Procession was taken out which was terminated at Iamam Bargah Kharadar. This was the beginning of your Association which is now known and recognize as “Pak Moharram Association (Regd.)”.
In 1948, the name of “Moharram Committee” was changed to “Pak Moharram Committee” and Majalis were held at Jehangir Park, Saddar, Karachi and Namaz-e-Eidain were also organized in the said Park.
In 1957, for accepting / receiving the donations and to cover the legal implications thereof, necessary amendments were made in Bye-Laws and got registered the organization in the name “Pak Moharram Association”. Moreover, the Number of members were also increased from five to fourteen.
In 1961, due to tremendous increase in population of Shaian-e-Haider-e-Karar, and enormous Commercial Cabins, Shops & encroachment at soundings of Jehangir Park, due to huge traffic and problems in parking of vehicles etc; it became absolutely difficult to organize Majalis in the Park. With the coordination and suggestion of the high officials of the then Government, it was decided to shift this Markazi Majalis to Patal Park, Soldier Bazar, Karachi which was the center of the City. Now this Park is known as “Nishtar Park”. This Park was area-wise large enough in comparison to Jehangir Park and was quite suitable because of its four-way wide roads and lanes. This substitute became very suitable and feasible.
Every year Markazi Majalis-e-Aza of Mohrarram-ul-Haram are held from 1to 8 at 5.00 p.m., on 9th Moharram at 11 a.m. after the Majlis a Markazi Procession is taken out. On yoome-e-Aashoora, the first majlis is held in the remembrance of Azan-e-Ali Akbar prior to the Fajr prayer and second Majlis is held at 8.00 a.m. After the Majlis, Markazi Procession consisting of Alam, Zuljanah and Taboot is taken out which was terminated at Hussainian Iranian after passing through its usual routes. These Majlis are also seen at Pak Moharram Hall & Educational Center on close circuit T.V.
On 20th Safar, Majlis-e-Arbain is held at 11.00 a.m. and at 9.00 p.m. on 27th Safar in connection with death anniversary of Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa S.A. (PBUH) and martyrdom of Imam Hassan A.M. At the end of these Majalis, Processions are also taken out in which thousands of mourners are participated. Namaz-e-Eideen are still being observed / prayed at 9.00 a.m. at the Jehangir Park, Saddar, Karachi.
In 1965, keeping in view their religious as well as social obligations, members of Pak Moharram Association felt it absolute necessary to establish “Pak Educational Trust” in addition to their prime duty of expansion of Azadari-e-Imam-Mazloom. Accordingly “Pak Moharram Educational Trust” was formed to create good ethics among the youngsters in the light of Seerat-e-Masoomeen. The fundamental responsibility of this organization is to build the character of youth strong enough so that they could face the challenges of prevailing immorality and prove themselves as virtuous having strong personal mannerism.
In 1991, Pak Moharram Association expanded its activities from 14 days to 365 day i.e. whole of the year and at the beginning of 1412 Hijri, we started organizing Majalis / Mahafils on death / birth anniversaries of Masoomeen A.S. at Aza Khana-e-Zehra, Soldier Bazar, Karachi.
